What actually changes a tow quote

DFW Towing does not post a single price that fits every job. The number you hear on (469) 208-4200 is built from the truck we have to send, how far it travels, and what the driver has to do on scene. A clean hook in a wide lot is not the same job as a winch off a parking-garage ramp at 2 a.m.

Truck type is the first fork. A wheel-lift is faster and cheaper when the car can roll. A flatbed costs more because it is a larger unit and a longer load. If your car is AWD, lowered, wrecked, or has a locked steering column, assume flatbed until dispatch says otherwise. Light and medium trucks need heavier equipment than a sedan — say the GVWR or body style so we do not send the wrong wrecker.

Mileage is the second fork. A short local drop to a shop a few miles away is one quote. A long-distance transport across the metro or out of town is billed on distance plus the same hook. After-hours, weekends, and weather slow the truck and can change availability even when the base method stays the same.

Extras that show up on the bill

Winching, dollies, lockouts that turn into tows, going-off-road recovery, and waiting time if the driver cannot reach the car all add labor. Storage is separate if the car has to sit. We will tell you before we start extra work when it is safe to pause and confirm.

Insurance sometimes covers towing after a crash; a mechanical breakdown is often on you. We can give a receipt and a description of the work. We cannot promise what your carrier will reimburse — that is their policy, not our rate card.

How to get a useful quote

Call with the vehicle type, whether it rolls, the pickup address, and the drop address. Photos of a tight ramp or a ditch help. Do not rely on a blog “average cost of towing in Dallas” figure; those pages are not a bid. If you only need a jump-start, say that — it is a different, shorter job than a tow.
